In Lak’ech Retreat with Meghan Dwyer  &          Meg Townsend

October 27th – November 5th, 2017

AA Guatemala 2015 0318

In Guatemala, the Mayan people greet each other by saying “In Lak’ech” which means “I am another you, you are another me”. This reminds us that what we see on the outside is also inside us.

Guided by the energy of Day of the Dead, this retreat creates a space for deep release, honoring what has passed, and for the lessons brought to the light. Be inspired by the people of the Lake and allow yourself to soak up the sweetness and simplicity of life on Atitlan. Through the healing tools of yoga, ritual, clean food, massage, sacred plants, and supportive circles, the Megs hold space for an experience that will alter the avenues of your life. And don’t forget that we always include a touch of adventure into the mix.

Be ready to safely explore your edges and transform yourself in the process!

Isla Verde means “green island” and to us, it means home. This is truly Aluna’s home base in Guatemala and we wouldn’t think of staying anywhere else! The eco-hotel is beautiful and comfortable. The tasteful cabins are set on the hillside, so be ready to hike up a few sets of steps to get back to your room each night! Each cabin has a magnificent view of the lake and the open air bathrooms are decorated with nature’s greenery.

About Meghan Dwyer / Founder

Meghan passed her childhood days in Philadelphia gazing up at the tall pines and adventuring in the bamboo forest behind her backyard. Her mom taught her the names of the flowers as she worked alongside her in the garden and her dad wowed her with his knowledge of the Native Americans. Now it’s spending time in nature, gardening and learning about indigenous cultures that make her come alive and feel like a kid again. In her quest to rewild herself, Meghan has found that live music, dancing, creating, and camping are the best medicine…and no doubt yoga and travel! She got bit by the travel bug in youth hostels and train rides through Europe while studying in Spain for a semester. However, she found her wild heart and that back-to-the-earth feeling in Latin America while living & volunteering in Mexico for a year after college. She wants to see the whole world, but can’t stop going back to Spanish-speaking lands, her ultimate passion.

Meghan discovered yoga in 2003 when her friend said she had to try this thing called yoga her mom was doing in California. Since then her practice has been a journey to love (inside and out) and is driven by a focused intention to help ease suffering in the world. She has developed an intimate understanding that in order to “Be the change you want to see in the world,” more often than not, you have to change within yourself. Using ancient methods of yoga infused with teachings from South American Shamanism that speaks to the necessity of awakening of the Feminine, she guides students to listen to the quiet wisdom embodied in the rhythm of their own hearts. Meghan graduated from the 200 hour teacher training at Blue Banyan Yoga Studio in Philadelphia in 2009. In 2013, she completed a second training, the Conquering Lion Yoga 300 hour program in NYC where she learned to combine elements of Tibetan Buddhism’s mindfulness and compassion with Shamanic practices that connect us to Mother Earth.

About Meg Townsend / CoFounder

Meg Townsend loves breathing in life to its fullest potential and she experiences that through traveling the world, exploring her creative gifts as an opera singer, tending to her urban garden, going on photography adventures, and teaching yoga. The travel bug bit her when she ventured to Spain and France in high school, and after graduation, she decided to take a solo backpacking journey across the USA in search of the perfect college. She can be at home traveling by herself or with a group of like-minded, inspiring people. Her travels have taken her all over the world.

Meg’s yoga practice has helped her in healing and strengthening her mind and body, and aligning her with her true and wonderful nature. She feels so blessed to have found this truly deep and transformational practice and even more blessed that she spends her life sharing it with others! She discovered yoga in high school and convinced her gym teacher that her class time would be better spent doing yoga in the locker room rather than attempting to sharpen her skills at basketball. For the next ten years, she explored different styles of yoga and became more enamoured with her practice. Meg was invited to take part in her first yoga teacher training in 2008 and in 2010, met her soul’s teacher, Yogarupa Rod Stryker. She is committed to serving the Sri Vidya Tantra lineage through her practice and teaching. She has over 500 hrs of yoga training, is a Reiki Master, and an Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist. She loves teaching yogis of all levels how they too can thrive with the teachings of yoga and Ayurveda.

OM Tribe Yoga Retreat with Randi Cerini and  Erica Chen

December 2nd – December 9th, 2017

Pack your bags and join your Om Tribe leaders for an unforgettable trip to beautiful Lake Atitlan, an ancient crater lake located in the heart of Guatemala. Randi and Erica have had the pleasure of experiencing Lake Atitlan and Isla Verde once before, and they look forward to returning with a new tribe this year. Enjoy 8 days and 7 nights doing yoga, bonding with the tribe, relaxing, and going on some adventures.

Isla Verde is nestled upon a hill top overlooking the lake, which is surrounded by volcanoes. The sunsets are unreal! Travelers are drawn to the area for its raw natural beauty and diverse outdoor activities.

About Randi Cerini

Movement and dance have always been part of Randi’s life.
She began dancing as a toddler and continued to dance, perform, and choreograph through college and after. She moved to New York City to continue her focus on dance and movement and found that yoga was not only something she loved to practice, but it also helped reduce foot pain she had developed from years of dancing. This “aha” moment inspired her to become a yoga teacher so she could help others cope with physical injuries, mental and emotional struggles, or just find clarity and groundedness after a hectic New York day. Randi teaches various styles of yoga including vinyasa, hatha, Katonah, restorative, and prenatal. She regularly teaches public classes, private clients and on international yoga retreats. She completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training and mentorship program in 2014 at Yoga Vida in Manhattan, and 50 hours of training with Abbie Galvin and Alex Sharry at Katonah Yoga in Manhattan.

Randi’s teaching style largely focuses on helping students find proper alignment before moving deeper into a posture or state of meditation. Her sequences are challenging for students of all levels yet attainable for new students, as she provides variations for many postures. Randi is constantly inspired by the teachers and students she encounters in New York and the worldwide yoga community.

About Erica Chen

Erica Chen has had a passion for movement since she can remember. A Florida native, she began to train in dance at a young age, in various styles and classical techniques. She graduated from Florida State University with a BFA in Dance, where she studied different mediums of movement and fell in love with yoga. But, it wasn’t until she moved to New York that she deepened her practice and found that yoga is what keeps her centered not only amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, but in her own body, mind, and life. Erica has achieved her 200 RYT certification, as well as completed her mentorship under Lindsay Hilscher through Yoga Vida NYC. She has also completed her prenatal certification through Ishta Yoga, and studied the katonah yoga  method under Abbie Galvin and Alex Sharry at The Studio in Manhattan for a 50 hour intensive training.

Erica hopes to fuse her love of different movement techniques to create an energetic, challenging and seamless flow during her classes. With a strong belief in yoga being accessible to everyone, Erica gives many modifications and variations, hands on adjustments, and alignment based cues to help the entirety of the class breathe together and move together.

About Gloria Glo

Gloria has lived on the ecstatic note of life since her young age.

Her dynamic, attentive, magnetic and willing character has always directed her to say YES to the spontaneous multitude of life opportunities. As a devotee to movement; she has built over twenty five years of dance experience, from contemporary choreography, to ballet and modern Dance. The rhythms of her well-traveled feet have brought her to the exposure of more liberal dance movements, and it wasn’t until the merging of movement and meditation through Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms that Gloria truly found what she had beed digging for.

For Gloria, dancing is a religious practice; When she goes to dance, she goes to church.

Another thread of embodied movement that has enhanced her own life as well as the life of her students, is the wisdoms of Yoga. Gloria has been teaching Yoga since 2013. That same year she discovered Air Yoga in New York and certified her training in this unique form of art. The combination of these conscious practices inspired her to design ultra personal classes and retreats that focus on Pranayama, Ayurveda, Traditional styles of Yoga and Air Yoga. She has taught in Europe, Canada, United States and Central America. Her most preferred way to teach these complex sciences is through one-on-one client consultations to honour the detail of composition of each individual.

As a multi-disciplinary Artist, the series of her work are inspired by her admiration for geometry, patterns, maps and systems of ecological, cultural, psychological and spiritual studies.

Gloria is also the founder of Sattva Land, a Wholistic Learning and Healing centre in the jungle of Belize, Central America. (https://www.sattvaland.com/)

About Grace Edmunds

Grace first stepped onto the path of practice when she was 16 and took her first yoga class. Every day since has been an unfolding of a fruitful path of contemplation, self-inquiry, and self-empowerment. Through the practices of Yoga, Mindfulness & Music (Kirtan), she supports students awakening the wisdom that is within them. Grace believes that all that we seek is already within us and we can use contemplative body-mind practices to assist in the uncovering of our true nature. With breath and awareness centered practice, her students go on a journey to discover the nature of their mind and body and leave class feeling centered and empowered.

Grace’s dedication to transformation through personal practice brought her to the birthplace of yoga, India, where she attended her first yoga teacher training in the Sivananda lineage. Since then, she has studied Para Yoga & Sri Vidya Tantric studies, Yoga for Kids, & Mindfulness while exploring yin yoga as well. Grace’s passion for the physical practice of yoga-asana is met equally by her love of yogic philosophy and creative movement which she often interweaves into her classes. Breath is the centerpiece of practice for her and her classes use the breath as a means of inner-transformation.

Grace is also a passionate musician who sings and plays harmonium and guitar. She has performed and led Kirtan at yoga studios and spiritual centers around the world. Her Kirtan flow classes blend mantra chanting and singing with powerful asana practice to evoke a sense of deep connection.

Grace LOVES to embody the feminine. Her journey with this have been the result of her world travels and observing how many different cultures worship and respect the feminine. She has led classes and rituals to embody the feminine, has worked with different archetypes of the goddess and has chanted to Durga many hundreds of times. Now is the time to awaken our feminine nature for true inner and outer transformation.
